Annual report and accounts 2016
We help people in problem debt get back on a firmer financial footing. We also campaign for change, to help prevent problem debt and to limit its negative effects. in 2016, 600,000 people sought our help.
Our annual report and accounts gives a summary of our current priorities and an overview of the charity's finances. It also tells the stories of our clients and reveals the impact our work makes on people's lives.
Our vision is a society free from problem debt. The UK already has 2.9 million people in severe problem debt, with only 1.5 million getting support. Our free debt advice helps people navigate their way through the often complex and agonising challenges of being in debt.

Growing consumer credit
For the first time in eight years, we have seen the average debt of those we help increase. Against a backdrop of rising borrowing, stagnant wages and the growth of insecure work, increasing numbers of households will be vulnerable to problem debt.
People we helped in 2016
On average, the people we advised owed £14,251 across 5.7 debts. Over the phone or online, we gave them free independent advice, offering a range of solutions to help them manage their situation.
Campaigning for change
Our campaigning, influencing and partnership work brings about change in industry practice, regulation and government policy. It helps to prevent yet more people falling into problem debt and to reduce the harm it causes, and we're committed to doing more.
