This latest report provides insight into the demographic and debt information of new clients who first received debt advice in August 2021. It also includes the latest insights on our website traffic trends.
Our key findings from August 2021:
- StepChange provided full debt advice to 12,500 new clients in this month. This included 5,600 through the charity’s telephony service, and over 6,800 through online debt advice.
- The charity continues to see an increase in the proportion of clients in full-time employment, up from 36% in 2020 to 40% in August 2021. More than half (56%) of new StepChange clients were in a form of employment in August.
- The charity advised a larger proportion of single parents (24%), women (62%) and under-40s (58%) compared to the previous month. Clients with these characteristics have long been over-represented among StepChange’s client population.
- The StepChange website was visited by over 300,000 users in August. There was a 93% increase in page visits to information regarding government support for gas and electricity bills
