This latest report provides insight into the demographic and debt information of new clients who first received debt advice in September 2020. It also provides the latest insight surrounding our website traffic information.
Our key findings from September 2020:
- Although volumes are still lower than last year, we saw an increase of over 3,000 new clients in September compared to August. 16,000 new clients received full debt advice in September 2020
- A growing proportion of new clients were unable to keep up with household bills. This includes council tax, which continues to be our most common arrears type. 1 in 5 new online clients and 36% of new telephone clients were behind on this household bill in September
- We continued to advise more clients in receipt of Universal Credit in September, with 43% of clients receiving this benefit, up from 34% in April 2020
- We also saw an increase in traffic to our website in September. This includes our ‘emergency funding’ page, which continues to be our most visited debt info web page. This highlights the ongoing difficulty of dealing with income shocks that many households are experiencing
