Today (Monday 22 March),
we mark the beginning of
Debt Awareness Week, the
charity’s annual campaign to raise awareness of problem debt and remind people
that free, impartial advice is available.
This year’s event comes as Britain marks the anniversary of its first national lockdown, with the Coronavirus pandemic having had a devastating effect on the finances of many people across the country.
The theme for this year’s Debt Awareness Week is encouraging people to take #TheFirstStep towards getting debt help, by opening up the conversation around debt and removing the stigma that can surround financial problems.
While some in the country are looking forward to a brighter future post-lockdown, others are seriously worried about their job and housing security. StepChange hopes to encourage anyone worried about their pandemic debts to take the first step towards recovering from a difficult year.
