StepChange Debt Charity took home two trophies at last night’s Credit Awards, Credit Strategy’s flagship awards which celebrates best practice across the consumer credit sector. The charity was awarded Debt Advice Provider of the Year and Best Response to the Cost-of-Living Crisis.
StepChange has been recognised for its work responding to the ongoing cost of living crisis, including the development of an online cost of living hub, a cost of living newsletter to support clients and engagement with the media to provide practical help and advice to consumers worried about rising prices.
The charity’s work in ensuring consumers in financial difficulty get effective and appropriate support early was also recognised, including the development of a new digital referral tool for creditors, StepChange Direct.
Last year saw StepChange continue its influencing, research and policy work with the publication of several major reports and consultation responses. A report with the University of Bristol examined the experiences of people in debt with gambling problems, while research with Amplify Global explored how creditor communications can improve customer engagement with advice.
Vikki Brownridge, CEO at StepChange Debt Charity, said:
“The ongoing cost of living crisis has shone a light on the importance and value of free and independent debt advice, and we’re delighted to have been recognised in these two areas. It is testament to the tireless work of everyone across the charity who is driven by creating the best outcomes for clients, and ensuring people experiencing financial difficulty know we are there to support them.
“As millions of people struggle with their finances, we’ve seen our client volumes increase this year, and we’ll continue to provide high quality debt advice for all those who need it, while calling for policy changes to reduce the harm caused by problem debt.”
