Assets and your DMP budget

When we conduct your review we’ll ask you what assets you own and their estimated values. Assets include things like vehicles, antiques or holiday homes. It’s worth considering whether these assets are vital or if you could sell them to help repay your debts.

The information about your assets isn’t shared with your creditors but we’ll use it to make sure we give you the best advice based on your current situation.

Owning assets can change the options available to help you become debt free, so it’s important that you let us know about any assets you may have.

FAQs

No. We need to know the value of any assets you've got because they affect the debt solutions that are available to you, but we wont share this information with your creditors.

Your creditors will probably know if you are a homeowner and can find information about this from the Land Registry.

If you have no assets when you die, your debts are written off. Your next of kin don't have to pay them.

If you have assets when you die, such as a house or shares, your creditors can pursue your estate for payment. If your house is jointly owned and your partner outlives you, he or she will not normally have to leave the house.

This is a complex area, so please contact us if you've got any specific questions..
